The Impacts of Generative AI on Education
Does AI Enhance or Hinder our Learning?
In order to understand its potential impact we need to have an idea of what generative AI means.
What is Generative AI?
As the name suggests, generative AI uses algorithms to produce text, videos and audio which we can then go on to use in our businesses, art work and code.
It does this by using machine learning models that identify and replicate patterns in human generated content.
In education, it can be used to summarize text, generate tests and give feedback. Despite these uses, does it hinder or enhance our education?
Personalized Learning
Learning. It consists of putting things to memory, solving tasks and coming up with new ideas.
In one way, with tools such as ChatGPT, we are able to interact with AI models to learn based on the answers we receive from questions we ask.
Despite getting specific responses from large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, there is always the issue of reliability. What training data was used exactly to generate that response. Can you provide an accurate reference? I find LLMs seriously lacking in this area.
