If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough — Albert Einstein

Have you ever found yourself struggling to explain a concept to your friend or family member?

Perhaps it is because you can’t find the right words, are not articulate enough or, a more simple explanation, you don’t understand it.

Writing and teaching what you learn forces you to break down concepts in your mind, carefully craft sentences that deconstruct complex ideas and simplify content for the people’s understanding. It is through this process that learning occurs.

When you learn something with the intention to teach, you approach the topic with the audience in mind. How can I simplify these ideas for people reading? What can I draw to clearly demonstrate these processes? In answering these questions, you learn more about the topic and address knowledge gaps.

Writing down what you learn and publishing it to an audience enables you, not only to have the potential for earning income, as is the case with writing on medium, put provides a space for storing your knowledge which can you refer to.

I have spent over 3 years writing about data science, breaking down concepts in an on-going series called “the data series”. This has provided me with the opportunity to solidify my understanding of certain algorithms and keep track of my learning.

Have you recently learnt something new or are looking to delve into a new field. Each time you learn about a new concept or idea, write about it. If you are confident, consider publishing your work on an online platform like medium.

I hope you found this article useful.
