My Experience as a Data Analyst in Healthcare
Where Data Can Save Lives
What Got me into Data?
My background aligns with what you would expect of a Data analyst. I was always into logic and maths, sometimes struggled to connect with people and would often overthink things.
During my time at university, studying maths with statistics, a friend introduced me to the world of Machine Learning. I was fascinated from the get go — went on to complete courses by the renowned Andrew Ng and produced a series of tutorials on what I learnt.
I believe it was these tutorials and my interest in healthcare, which might of stemmed from my family background of doctors, that led me to land a job in a research company in health data science.
Working as a Researcher in Health Data Science
Having worked for this company for 3 years, I honed my programming skills and investigated and applied a wide range of machine learning algorithms to healthcare data. From HDBSCAN to U-MAP, trying to have even a high-level understanding of these functions took me ages. Despite the challenges, I thoroughly enjoyed transitioning from an area of cluelessness to gaining a better understanding of some common algorithms used in data science.
